Building Ontario with Investments in GO Transit Bi-level Rail Coaches

The Ontario government is providing $171 million to refurbish 94 GO Transit bi-level rail coaches at the Alstom plant in Thunder Bay. This investment will support ongoing service expansion across the GO rail network, while supporting 200 manufacturing jobs and economic growth in Northwestern Ontario.The refurbished bi-level coaches are expected to be delivered starting in 2023 and will be equipped with new seating, washroom upgrades, updated electrical outlets with USB ports and other cosmetic improvements.

Ontario Secures Another Milestone Auto Investment

The Ontario government is supporting a more than $2 billion investment by General Motors of Canada Company with up to $259 million in grant support to transform the company’s Oshawa and CAMI manufacturing plants, as well as improvements across all of GM’s manufacturing and R&D facilities in the province. These investments will pave the way for GM’s first electric vehicle (EV) production line in Ontario in Ingersoll and the continuation of vehicle production in Oshawa, while ensuring the vehicles of the future are built in Ontario and sold across North America.

Ontario Bringing Manufacturing Jobs to Kapuskasing

The Ontario government is working for workers by investing over $1.2 million to help over 100 people in Northern Ontario train for apprenticeships and well-paying careers in pulp and paper manufacturing. In partnership with GreenFirst Forest Products, this project is training 66 jobseekers for new and existing roles, as well as upskilling 40 current employees to work on the production of EnviroSmart products, a sustainable alternative to plastic and other fossil fuel-based packaging materials.

Kollmorgen Performs 5G Tests with Ericsson to Explore Mobile Robot Capabilities in Sweden

Kollmorgen is currently performing 5G tests with Ericsson to explore future Mobile Robot capabilities. 5G can enable new levels of AI and Machine Learning, simplify requirements for infrastructure, and increase network stability – which could dramatically increase performance and cost efficiency for Kollmorgen’s partners and end-users. Kollmorgen’s tests with Ericsson were carried out on both a private 5G network as well as a public 4G network by using a Autonomous Mobile Robot, controlled by the Kollmorgen NDC S platform. The Wi-Fi communication link in the Kollmorgen CVC700 onboard vehicle control unit was replaced with a 5G communication link. Test results were promising – The NDC Solutions hardware and software proved to run as stable on 5G as on Wi-Fi. Furthermore, a seamless 5G antenna handover was observed.
