PAM03 Series Photoelectric Amplifier – A Powerful Solution for Harsh Environments by Carlo Gavazzi

Carlo Gavazzi Automation, the international electronics group with activities in the design, manufacture, and marketing of electronic equipment, is pleased to present the fourth generation of its industry leading photoelectric sensor amplifier: the PAM03.

The new PAM03 Series Photoelectric Amplifier has been designed based upon customer demands combined with their solid experience in harsh environments gained over the last forty years.

Carlo Gavazzi’s PAM03 Amplifier can operate alone, controlling three sets of MOF Series Sensors. Additionally, up to ten amplifiers can be connected automatically in a master/slave set-up via the built-in communication port that shares power and control of up to thirty MOF Sensor sets. All connected MOF Sensors are multiplexed, to eliminate crosstalk.

“The PAM03 Series sensor system has been developed to operate in industries such as automatic industrial doors and gates, stone crushing machine conveyors, carwash systems, and all applications that require sensors to work despite a build-up of dust and/or dirt, or sense through dust, vapor, or similar visibility hindrances.” Torben Rochat International Product Manager says. “With the launch of this photoelectric sensor amplifier we are ready to challenge the toughest sensing applications, thanks to its ease of use and service.”

Developed in their Competence Center in Denmark, this PAM03 Series Photoelectric Sensor Amplifier has been designed to fulfill the industrial requirements in providing reliable detection of up to 50 m (164 ft) sensing distance.

Main Technical Features:

  • Reduced machine set-up time: Integrated alignment control allows optimized adjustment of the sensors by means of flashing yellow LEDs combined with two distance setup modes: Automatic or manual via a trimmer. Excess gain and maximum distance are selectable via the DIP switches.
  • Reduced machine downtime:
    • Built-in diagnostics: Tri-color LEDs show what type of error occurred and where, making troubleshooting quick and easy
    • Alarm output: Provides predictive maintenance instead of waiting until dust builds up or ice blinds the sensors
    • Sensor test function: A mute input on the PAM03 Amplifier allows the sensor system to be remotely tested to comply with the European standards for industrial automatic doors
  • Reliable detection: The combination with the powerful MOF Series sensor sets allows for reliable detection despite refracting icy vapor or high levels of dust in the environment.
  • High neighbor immunity: The highest neighbor immunity is achieved by multiplexing all connected MOF Series sensors, eliminating crosstalk. Up to ten connected modules (Master/Slave set-up) can control up to thirty multiplexed sensor sets.
  • Approvals: International Door Standards: EN12453, EN12978, UL325 and UL508
