Grey Is the New Colour: Phoenix Contact Moves Over to Unprinted Packaging

Phoenix Contact is changing its item packaging over to unprinted folding cartons, both nationally and internationally. The packaging can therefore be reused – in the spirit of a sustainable circular economy.

The colorful packaging used by Phoenix Contact for decades will soon become a thing of the past. Unprinted packaging is the way into the future, replacing the colors May Green, Blue-Green, and the familiar brand mark, the signal chain. The main reasons for the changeover are sustainability and security of supply.

The changeover does not affect the technical properties of the packaging, nor does it affect the dimensions or automated processes. With this step, Phoenix Contact continues to pursue the goal within its own sustainability strategy of improving resource efficiency and reducing carbon emissions. “Unprinted packaging is better for recycling chains because the omission of ink reduces contamination,” explains Christin Schlieker, Project Manager in Logistics at the head office in Blomberg, Germany. Furthermore, the item packaging without elaborate branding can also be more easily reused beyond Phoenix Contact.

From the perspective of material availability, unprinted folding cartons are also available more readily within the international goods arena, with less transportation effort, and above all locally. Christin Schlieker goes on to say, “We no longer need to focus on our printing, rather we can focus on improving the recyclability and technical properties. Phoenix Contact has been committed to this for years.”

Even after the gradual changeover, Phoenix Contact products will not be released into the world without a logo. The company from Ostwestfalen-Lippe, Germany, will be using the product label for brand recognition instead. The transport packaging will also be sealed with a newly designed adhesive tape made from fiber-reinforced paper featuring the Phoenix Contact logo.

Power Supplies with Integrated Circuit Breaker from Phoenix Contact

These power supplies are particularly space-saving due to their narrow overall width and capability of being mounted directly side by side. The low overall depth enables installation in 210 mm small housings. The power supply units also enable easy handling: Push-in connection technology allows for quick and tool-free installation.

Integrated marking fields can be used to easily display equipment identifications and circuits. Due to an intuitive commissioning concept, the devices are quickly ready for use. The mechanical lock of the potentiometers ensures that the devices are also tamper-proof.
