3-Phase Voltage Monitoring Relays for HVAC Systems Using Low-GWP Refrigerants from Carlo Gavazzi

Protecting compressors, ensuring compliance, enabling sustainability

Carlo Gavazzi Automation, the international electronics group with activities in the design, manufacture and marketing of electronic equipment, announces the launch of its new DPA01, DPA51 and DPA52 three-phase monitoring relays, specifically designed for HVAC systems operating with low-GWP flammable refrigerants.

The HVAC industry is undergoing a profound transformation. Manufacturers are phasing out high-GWP HFCs in favor of nextgeneration refrigerants such as R-32, R-1234yf and R-290. While these alternatives support climate goals, they also present a higher ignition risk—requiring strict compliance with IEC/EN 60335-2-40 and UL 60335-2-40 safety standards.

Carlo Gavazzi’s new DPA relays provide a reliable and certified response to this challenge. Designed to operate completely
spark-free, they meet the ignition-free requirements for A2L and A3 refrigerants. These relays make continuous phase sequence and phase loss monitoring, ensuring that compressors are always protected from the main grid failures.

“The transition to low-GWP refrigerants marks a significant step toward sustainability, but it also introduces new technical
challenges,” says Francesco Vedana, International Product Manager at Carlo Gavazzi. “Our new DPA relays provide OEMs
with a ready-to-use, compliant solution that combines safety, reliability, and ease of integration—helping them bring regulationready HVAC systems to market faster.”

This new range supports manufacturers of commercial heat pumps, chillers, and rooftop units in meeting both regulatory
requirements and growing customer expectations for safe, efficient and sustainable HVAC solutions.

Main technical features

  • Spark-free technology to eliminate ignition risk
  • Phase sequence and phase loss monitoring for reliable compressor protection
  • Upgrade-ready solution allows easy upgrades to existing systems with minimal redesign
