European Championships for apprenticeships in Denmark under the banner of sustainability

From 9 to 13 September 2025, Herning in Denmark will become the European center for professional excellence: At this edition of EuroSkills, around 600 trai-nees from 33 European countries will compete against each other in 38 disciplines. The European Championships for Apprenticeships not only offer a stage for outstanding achievements, but also a diverse supporting programme with interactive offers for up to 100,000 visitors – all under the banner of sustainability according to the motto “Skilled for a Greener Future”. Festo has been one of the sponsors of EuroSkills since the competitions were founded in 2008.

With Festo Didactic, the company provides modern learning systems, software and components for the two competitive disciplines of mechatronics and Industry 4.0. In this way, the company supports practical skills that are indispensable for the challenges of the future – such as digitalization and sustainable production. Vocational competitions such as EuroSkills not only help to counteract the shortage of skilled workers, but also arouse young people’s enthusiasm for technical professions. In the EuroSkills mechatronics competition, two Festo trainees represent the German colours: Timo Dietrich and Kimi Wößner were German runners-up in mechatronics in 2023 and are therefore eligible to compete in EuroSkills Herning 2025.

Shaping the future with education

“EuroSkills impressively shows how practice-oriented education inspires young people and at the same time lays the foundation for technological innovations. As an educational partner, we want to help ensure that the next generation of skilled workers is optimally prepared for the requirements of a sustainable future,” says Dr. Oliver Niese, CEO of Festo Didactic SE.

“Skilled for a Greener Future” – Focus on sustainability

This year’s motto “Skilled for a Greener Future” underlines how ecological responsibility can be anchored in various professional fields – for example through the use of environmentally friendly technologies, recycled materials and circular economy. Festo will be showcasing suitable solutions with the EDS Environmental Discovery System Water Management and Nacelle Wind Energy learning systems at the Festo stand in the exhibition area of the event. Trainees use these learning systems to learn future professions with a high sustainability factor. These systems are also the competition equipment for next year’s WorldSkills competitions in Shanghai, China.

In addition to the exciting competitions, visitors can expect a varied supporting programme with interactive “Try-a-Skill” areas, where they can experience practical professional skills themselves and try them out on exhibits. The aim of the organizers is for the 100,000 visitors, including many young people, to recognize career paths in technical and manual professions and to break down their prejudices against these apprenticeships.

EuroSkills Herning 2025 is organized in close partnership with the Danish Ministry of Children and Education, WorldSkills Denmark and WorldSkills Europe. Herning as a venue is a pioneer in the implementation of Industry 4.0 with its flourishing industrial sector and its international orientation.
