Canada is at the forefront of the quantum revolution, from leading-edge research into the behaviour of sub-atomic particles to the development of quantum computers, sensors, and instruments. Canadian innovation is enabling new solutions that will transform health care, transportation logistics, materials and cybersecurity around the world.

Since 2012, Canada has invested over $1 billion in quantum technologies, building a vibrant quantum ecosystem that includes academic and research institutions, private industry and the public sector. At the heart of the ecosystem are partnerships to advance quantum computing, communication, cryptography, sensing and materials science. In Canada, major cities like Toronto, Waterloo, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Montréal are thriving hubs for quantum science and technology.

Collaboration among researchers, innovators and industry is the cornerstone of Canada’s success in quantum innovation. By investing in quantum technologies in Canada, global industry leaders can have access to an innovation ecosystem that will allow them to fully harness the benefits of the emerging quantum sector. The National Research Council of Canada commissioned a study that estimates that the development of quantum technologies will contribute CAD 17.7 billion to Canada’s GDP and create nearly 160,000 jobs by 2045.

Canada is committed to maintaining its lead in quantum science and technology. Our National Quantum Strategy focuses on three key missions:

  • Establishing Canada as a world leader in the continued development, deployment and use of quantum computing hardware and software
  • Ensuring the privacy and cybersecurity of Canadians in a quantum-enabled world through a national secure quantum communications network and a post-quantum cryptography initiative
  • Enabling the Government of Canada and key industries to be developers and early adopters of new quantum sensing technologies

Thanks to a strong foundation of research institutions, a thriving ecosystem of quantum focused SMEs, and strategic investments, Canada is well positioned to continue being a key player in the global quantum revolution, driving innovation, economic growth and technological breakthroughs in a globally competitive market.

The quantum future is happening now. HANNOVER MESSE 2025 will highlight how Canada is continuing to shape and define the next era of technology and innovation, welcoming global partners and fostering new collaborations to explore the limitless possibilities of the quantum world.
