The Festo Group has achieved the highest turnover in its history for the 2021 financial year. After a double-digit growth in turnover of around 18% to 3.36 billion euros (previous year 2.84 billion euros), the company started the first quarter with a double-digit order intake. This puts the innovation leader in automation and technical education in a good starting position to push ahead with its strategic orientation towards digitalization and sustainability at full speed in 2022. The company expects further growth even under the current difficult geopolitical conditions.
Hammond Manufacturing, a leader in electrical and rack mounting solutions for over a century, is pleased to announce the addition of two new manufacturer representative appointments. At the beginning of April 2022, Hammond appointed Georgia-based Federal Cable to further cover both North and South Carolinas. Since 2020, Federal Cable has represented Hammond’s Rack Mounting Solutions product division for Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. Effective April 18, 2022, Hammond was selected by Texas-based Vertical Datacom Inc, to represent Hammond’s Rack Mounting Solutions product division for Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and New Mexico.

A new interface standard for the acquisition of energy consumption data in industrial manufacturing is being developed by ODVA, OPC Foundation, PI, and VDMA based on OPC UA. A key objective of the future mechanical and plant engineering sectors is to achieve climate-neutral production. This is backed up by the European Union’s “European Green Deal”, which aims to make Europe climate-neutral by 2050. To achieve this goal, and to implement many other use cases, energy consumption data in production is an important prerequisite.

This solution ensures that a machine cannot resume operation while people are still in the danger zone. The maintenance safeguarding system “key-in-pocket” is designed for machines with danger zones, which are protected by a safety fence and which staff need to access – robot cells for example. In comparison with conventional lockout-tagout (LOTO) systems, maintenance safeguarding with the key-in-pocket solution is implemented via RFID keys with corresponding permissions and a safe list in the PILZ controllers. As a result, it provides a purely electronic restart protection and makes both mechanical interlocking devices and warning tags redundant.
