ABB Launches Next-Gen Machinery Drive Built for Performance, Connectivity, and Cybersecurity
ACS380-E machinery drive
  • ABB’s new drive features dual built-in Ethernet ports with selectable industrial protocols Profinet IO RT, Ethernet/IP, and Modbus TCP/IP
  • The ACS380-E comes with integrated cybersecurity will help machine builders meet upcoming EU Machinery Regulations effective in 2027
  • The drive enables fast USB-C “cold commissioning” and firmware updates without external power supply or option cards

The latest addition to ABB’s all-compatible drive portfolio simplifies machine integration and is future-proofed for industrial automation.

The new ACS380-E machinery drive is engineered specifically for industrial machinery applications, speeding commissioning, installation, wiring and assembly while supporting future compliance with stringent cybersecurity requirements. Its embedded dual Ethernet ports and selectable protocols – which come as standard – remove the need for separate option modules, reducing complexity and installation time.

Additionally, with versatile USB-C commissioning and firmware access via Ethernet, the ACS380-E streamlines setup and means that it will stay up-to-date in terms of cyber security.

“The modern industrial landscape requires equipment that delivers connectivity, simplicity, and cybersecurity, all while staying easy and flexible to use,” said Prabhu Nagavi, ACS380 Product Manager at ABB. “ACS380-E’s advanced features enable our customers to confidently build high-performance machines that meet regulatory demands today, and are ready for tomorrow.”

From 2026, the ACS380-E drive will support all common rotary motor types across global voltage ranges (100-600 V) and will deliver superior motor control for applications like packaging systems, conveyors, extrusion lines and multi-axis machinery. It will also be ready to seamlessly integrate with all major automation systems—including ABB’s AC500 PLC and products from the other main players in the market. The drive integrates effortlessly into confined cabinet spaces via compact construction and versatile installation options.

Enhanced by ABB’s Drive Composer software – and compatible with new Drive Composer 3 – the ACS380-E also simplifies monitoring and managing equipment, adaptive programming tools, and rapid offline configuration capabilities.

The ACS380-E machinery drive will be available by the beginning of July 2025, covering ratings up to 22 kW at 400 V, with additional power ranges and options to follow.
