Teledyne FLIR OEM recently unveiled a new brand and website to reflect its industry-leading thermal technology and empower original equipment manufacturer (OEM) integrators to see and do more. Ezra Merrill, Senior Director of Marketing – OEM at Teledyne FLIR, led the charge on update, and discusses the strategic evolution.
For more than 45 years, Teledyne FLIR has been providing advanced, mission-critical technology and systems. The company has multiple branches that support the markets and applications that they serve. Merrill says that during his time with the company, he has worked in all three parts of Teledyne FLIR: Defense, OEM, and Solutions, and summarizes each in turn.
Teledyne FLIR Defense’s thermal solutions lead the industry when it comes to defense applications. “Defense products are on the frontlines of the world’s most pressing military, security, and public safety challenges,” Merrill says. “As a global leader in thermal imaging, we design and build sophisticated surveillance sensors for air, land, and maritime use. We develop the most rugged, trusted unmanned air and ground platforms, as well as intelligent sensing devices used to detect chemicals, biological agents, radiation, and explosives.”
Merrill explains that the OEM branch of FLIR, or “Teledyne FLIR OEM,” is the world’s largest volume manufacturer of ITAR-free (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and NDAA-compliant (National Defense Authorization Act) IR (infrared) sensors and camera modules. “As a vertically integrated supplier, Teledyne FLIR OEM delivers thousands of thermal imagining modules and related software tools daily for defense, automotive, uncrewed, professional, and artificial intelligence (AI) applications designed to improve decision support and situational awareness,” he says.
And the Solutions arm of Teledyne FLIR is a world leader in intelligent sensing solutions for industrial and commercial applications. This includes traffic, security, condition monitoring, gas imaging, automation, research and development, personal vision systems, and fire safety. Merrill explains, “They create thermal-based products to help professionals in industrial inspection and first responders make better, feaster decisions that save lives and livelihoods.”
Teledyne FLIR OEM’s brand update and new website was a strategic evolution to highlight the company’s capabilities outlined above, and to streamline OEMs access to technical resources and development support. “The global Teledyne and FLIR brands both represent high performance and quality, cutting-edge innovation for life saving missions,” Merrill says. “It was natural to add and extend this with the unique strengths of the Teledyne FLIR OEM division: low-risk global supply, innovative vertical integration, development support, and certified quality operation.”
Merrill says that this evolution provides a new look, but the same trusted experience remains the same. “The updated brand establishes our clear unique identity, connects with our audience, delivers a consistent experience, builds trust and credibility, and allows the Teledyne FLIR brand to adapt and evolve. This brand update is built around our key differentiating messages that sets us apart from our competition and make us critical to our customers’ success.”
Teledyne FLIR OEM is not just another supplier, and the new website shows why. “The new Teledyne FLIR OEM brand more clearly communicates our alignment with customers and collaborators, and reinforces our position as a trusted, innovative, and agile partner in the infrared imaging space,” Merrill says. “While the legacy FLIR brand in already well-known for its thermal imaging expertise, Teledyne FLIR OEM reflects an integrated value proposition – one that emphasizes product performance and supply chain reliability, innovation, and collaboration.”
Wondering what you can expect from the new brand? Merrill says several key elements were updated in the new brand identity:
- Customer-Centric Messaging: The brand now explicitly highlights Teledyne FLIR OEM’s commitment to being the lowest-risk global IR supplier, with predictable, high-volume production and delivery across defense, professional, automotive, and uncrewed applications.
- Integrated Solutions: Teledyne FLIR OEM has emphasized its innovative hardware and software offerings, made possible through vertical factory integration. This ensures leadership in quality, value, performance, and reliability.
- Agile Collaboration: The new Teledyne FLIR OEM brand also underscores its role as a flexible development partner, with lean and responsive development, manufacturing, and support processes.
For Teledyne FLIR OEM, staying up to date is important. “Reinventing or updating a brand is especially important in the imaging industry because the technology evolves rapidly, and customer expectations and needs shift just as quickly,” Merrill says. “A refreshed brand helps signal to the market that we are not only keeping pace with innovation, but also proactively shaping the future of imaging. It reinforces trust, communicates our capabilities more clearly, and ensures we remain top-of-mind for customers seeking cutting-edge, dependable solutions.”
Merrill says that when customers visit the new website, they will notice several new features that have been introduced to make it easier for them to access technical resources and development support:
- The updated site features a more modernized look and feel, streamlined product and service information, and intuitive product selection tools.
- New features and tools will be added to help Teledyne FLIR OEM customers. Coming this fall, they are excited to introduce the DRI calculator. The DRI tool, which stands for Detection, Recognition, and Identification, will provide camera integrators with a standardized way to evaluate and compare the performance of imaging systems, particularly in surveillance, defense, and security applications. Merrill says this innovative integrated tool will provide advanced capabilities to enhance and simplify the developer’s decision-making process.
Teledyne FLIR OEM is a valuable partner for advanced infrared sensing solutions. Merrill says that one of the most unique things about Teledyne FLIR OEM is that they are vertically integrated. “Not only are we the world’s largest manufacturer of NDAA-compliant and ITAR-free thermal camera modules, but we are also the only supplier to make the entire hardware stack – ROICs, detectors, mid-wave infrared (MWIR) and long-wave infrared (LWIR) thermal camera modules, and continuous zoom lenses. This streamlines design, improves system performance, and reduces supply chain risk.”

Merrill highlights some of Teledyne FLIR OEM’s products, from the cameras to the software. “The Boson family represents the most dynamic, highest-performing uncooled longwave infrared (LWIR) thermal imaging technology in the Teledyne FLIR OEM portfolio.
The small, lightweight, and low-power camera module features both 640×512 and 320×256 thermal resolutions and approximately 40 lens configurations to meet the needs of our customers and their specifications,” he says.

“The high-performance 640×512 and 1280×1024 thermal resolution mid-wave infrared (MWIR) OEM Neutrino family includes modules developed for size, weight, and power optimization – but with higher performance. Neutrino can also be integrated with a continuous zoom lens for further improved performance at long ranges,” Merrill says.
“And now,” he adds, “we have our embedded Prism software, an end-to-end computational imaging ecosystem that streamlines development through dataset management, image signal processing (ISAP), and AI perception models that operate at the edge on the latest low-power, embedded mobile processors.”
Merrill says that Teledyne FLIR OEM has built their brand on delivering innovative, quality products at scale. “This would not have happened without our approach as a flexible development partner. Our technical experts and qualified application engineering teams are world-class. Plus, our ability to execute as an ‘other transactional authority’ (OTA)-friendly, non-traditional defense contractor enables us to quickly modify our commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) products to support large-scale programs.”
“By leveraging proven technology blocks and internal R&D investments, Teledyne FLI R minimizes external investment, thereby accelerating delivery while minimizing risks and costs,” Merrill says. “At the end of the day, Teledyne FLIR OEM is the lowest-risk IR supplier for defense and industrial applications worldwide.”
