Ontario Welcomes Over $32 Million Manufacturing Investment in Orillia

EcoPoly Properties Inc.’s expansion will create 85 new, good-paying jobs

The Ontario government is welcoming an investment of over $32 million by EcoPoly Properties Inc., a producer and supplier of plastic products, including films and bags for flexible packaging. Their investment will enhance the company’s existing facility in Orillia and create 85 new, good-paying jobs for local workers.

“Through the Regional Development Program, our government is fostering the right conditions for manufacturers to expand their operations and create more good-paying jobs in communities across the province,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “We are proud to support the growth of local manufacturers like EcoPoly Properties Inc. and thank them for strengthening their presence in Ontario.”

As the first full-service plastics laboratory and manufacturing facility in the world, EcoPoly Properties Inc. produces high-quality biodegradable plastic products that service a wide range of industries. The company’s investment will be used to acquire new equipment and automation that will increase their current production capacity and competitiveness in the North American market.

In support of EcoPoly Properties’ investment, Ontario is providing more than $3.5 million in funding through the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund (SWODF) of the Regional Development Program.

“We are proud to be a Canadian company that has been innovating and growing since our founding in 1991,” said Bryon Wolff, Chief Technology Officer of EcoPoly Properties Inc. “Starting from scratch in a small town in Ontario and becoming competitive globally is a truly amazing accomplishment and a testament to our people. The support we have received from the SWODF has been instrumental in the implementation of the next phase of our growth.”

Ontario is making investments through its Regional Development Program to help manufacturers across the province grow, while supporting distinct regional priorities and challenges. To date, Ontario has provided more than $140 million to support more than 110 projects through the program, leveraging more than $1.5 billion in new investments and helping to create more than 2,800 jobs in the province.

Applications for the next intake round of Regional Development Program funding begin on April 11, 2024.

Quick Facts

  • The government launched the Regional Development Program for eastern and southwestern Ontario in November 2019. Through this program, businesses and municipalities can get financial support and guided access to a range of complementary services and supports.
  • As part of the 2023 Ontario Budget, the government introduced the Ontario Made Manufacturing Investment Tax Credit, which provides a 10 per cent refundable Corporate Income Tax credit to help local manufacturers lower their costs, invest in workers, innovate and become more competitive.

“I am thrilled to join Minister Fedeli to announce the significant investment from the Ontario government into EcoPoly Properties Inc., a shining example of innovation and sustainability in our local community. This funding will not only fuel the expansion of EcoPoly’s operations but will also pave the way for job creation and economic growth, reinforcing Ontario’s position as a leader in green technology and industrial innovation.”
